Michael Steven Clark
Michael Steven Clark was born and raised in Northeast Tacoma. He is one of the founding partners of Krupa & Clark PS Inc. His primary area of practice involves the defense of individuals and corporations under criminal investigation or facing criminal charges in State and Federal Court. As a criminal lawyer, Mr. Clark has extensive experience representing clients charged with drug crimes, assaults, fraud and theft charges, driving under the influence (DUI), domestic violence, sex offenses, assaults, robbery, murder and manslaughter. Mr. Clark received his B.A. in Sociology from the University of Washington in 1990. He received his Law Degree from the University of Puget Sound in 1993 graduating with honors (Cum Laude) and serving as an associate editor on the University of Puget Sound Law Review. He began his legal career as a volunteer intern with the Pierce County Department of Assigned Counsel where he learned that he liked fighting for the underdog. While still in law school he began to work for a local Tacoma criminal defense firm where he achieved "not guilty" verdicts in his very first bench and jury trials. In 1997, Mr. Clark and his partner, Steven Krupa decided to start a firm of their own.
Mr. Clark has been trying cases to juries in Western Washington for over twenty years. His trial experience includes, murder, assault, domestic violence, DUI, burglary, unlawful possession of a firearm, perjury, manslaughter, indecent exposure, theft, possession of stolen property, robbery, harassment, stalking, drug possession and manufacturing, and child abuse. His reputation as an outstanding criminal trial lawyer was established in one of his first cases when he obtained a not-guilty verdict in a highly publicized matter in which a mother was accused of manslaughter for allegedly leaving an infant in a car on a hot day causing the child's death. That acquittal has been followed by numerous other not-guilty verdicts in cases ranging from felony assaults to child luring. In addition, Mr. Clark has successfully recovered attorney fees after he obtained not guilty verdicts on several domestic violence cases. In hundreds of other cases, after thorough investigation and research, Mr. Clark has convinced prosecutors to dismiss or reduce criminal charges against his clients.
In addition to his trial practice, Mr. Clark has successfully handled appeals to the Washington State Court of Appeals and to the United States Court of Appeals in the 9th Circuit. Mr. Clark also has extensive civil litigation experience handling auto accident cases, police misconduct and civil rights cases, and a variety of other civil cases. In addition, Mr. Clark has experience representing business owners in complex civil litigation. In this regard, he has drafted and argued numerous motions to dismiss and motions for summary judgment. Mr. Clark has participated in numerous arbitrations and mediations, where he has succeeded in achieving significant monetary awards for his clients.

Fellow attorneys in the State of Washington often refer criminal cases to Mr. Clark. In fact, he has represented relatives of prosecutors, other lawyers, doctors, and other prominent individuals accused of crimes in Washington State. Mr. Clark has presented at several continuing legal education seminars for the Washington State Bar Association on such topics as appellate advocacy, defending domestic violence cases, and caselaw updates.
Mr. Clark is a member of the Washington State Bar, the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association, and the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He also serves on the Advisory Board of Pierce County Department of Assigned Counsel. He is a past chair of the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association Criminal Law Section and past President of the Criminal Law Section of the Washington State Bar Association. Mr. Clark is admitted to practice in all Washington State Courts, the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington.
Mr. Clark is married with two children. In his personal time he enjoys playing soccer and coaching youth sports, making pizza in his wood-fired pizza oven, and fishing the great rivers of the Pacific Northwest.
